After updating my firmware to Android Froyo, I noticed the market place had not been updated and that Skype could not be installed, even though the latest Skype 1.0.2 for Android officially supports the Samsung Galaxy S (with Android OS 2.2) http://blogs.skype.com/garage/2010/12/skype_102_for_android.html. It just did not appear in the market place, and attempting to download from the Skype website resulted in a 404 Error.
The app MarketEnabler (available from the Android Marketplace) is a Sim tool application that allows you to change the Sim issuer code in the running system. It requires a rooted phone, su app, and busybox. Once I had change the issuer code I was updated to the new marketplace and was able to download and install Skype.
